Dash Cam Wire Clip
thingiverse
This clip will keep your dash cam wiring neatly out of sight. In addition to printing this clip, you'll need: - adhesive 2-sided tape roll (also known as "mounting tape" and found in the tape aisle) - scissors or another cutting tool Your wire size might differ from mine, which is thicker due to its Mini USB cable. If your dash cam uses Micro USB or a different size, you can scale down this print for a better fit. These small clips will print quickly, allowing you to experiment with scaling until finding the right size without wasting too much filament. I printed these using ABS filament, but you can try PLA if you prefer. I snapped one while assembling it and imagine PLA would be more prone to breakage due to its thinness. However, feel free to experiment with different materials to achieve a stiffer clip. A black color might work better than the creamy white I used, as most windshields have a dark lining around the edges that can help conceal these clips. My intention is to keep them out of sight while driving rather than making them visually appealing. I suggest printing one to your liking and testing it in your vehicle to ensure a proper fit and function. Once satisfied, print more as needed. I found my printer could handle seven prints at once with no issues, but quality might suffer slightly due to increased stringing. Simply clip off the strings for a clean finish. Next, obtain adhesive 2-sided tape strips and cut them to size. Apply the tape to the back of the clips first, being gentle not to apply too much pressure that could damage the clip. Remove the protective tape and place the clips on the windshield where you want the wire to go. Again, focus on applying pressure only to the back portion of the clip for a secure hold. Let the adhesive dry for a few minutes before running your wire through the clips. Be cautious with the clip and handle it gently as you string the wire through one by one. You should now have a set of clips that effectively conceal your wiring. Give them some extra time to ensure they don't fall off, especially if the wiring adds weight. This can happen if not enough clips are used to share the weight. Consider printing a few extras in case some break or fall off in the future. Feel free to contribute your own ideas and suggestions. I'm always looking for ways to improve my designs and prints, so don't hesitate to share your tips and pointers!
