Hi makers, check out this rapid prototype of a "concept" space station designed for the Mars challenge. The idea here is to capture as much of the planet's thermal and solar energy as feasible, since resources are extremely scarce. All parts serve dual purposes, but I intended on relocating the solar panels - they're currently fixed in place. \n--The "Dome Top" model needs supports and serves as an excellent opportunity to test Makerware's new support generation feature. The rest of the components can be printed without supports---Have fun:)) \nThe solar panel array also closes onto the exposed living area, functioning as a shield against inclement weather and small meteorites.\nStainless steel spheres contain steam-powered electric generators; Abundant ice on Mars is gathered by human/robot workers, who dump it in underground steel spheres situated near high heat sources such as volcanoes. The intense heat melts and converts that ice into steam, which travels through underground piping to the spheres at ground level. Pressurized steam drives turbines to generate electricity while waste steam is pumped throughout the colony for warmth, eventually condensing into liquid water to be used in growing crops, etc.\nDownload, read more and enjoy this model. Please take a moment to like my design - your help in securing a Replicator would be invaluable; I will continue to share new models as they're created. \nThanks for watching!
