Darwin Candle
thingiverse
Let Charles Darwin shed light on your understanding...either by reading "The Origin of Species", or by casting him in wax and setting him ablaze! This four-piece mold casts a ~8 cm (~3") tall bust of Darwin. The mold needs to be taped together before casting. To prevent tearing of Darwin's beard or shoulders, the mold components should be slipped off sideways. I cast these using beeswax and a PLA mold. Although beeswax melts above PLA's glass transition temperature, I've poured over a dozen of these using the same mold without issue. Using four perimeters in your slicer settings can give more strength and durability to the mold surface; the rest of the mold can be printed at the lowest infill setting you're comfortable with - I used 10% gyroid. The mold was made by scaling and reducing the polygons of the MAAS Collection's Darwin bust: https://www.thingiverse.com/search?q=darwin&dwh=835db06ac872385 Note: Thingiverse has distorted the photos; the candles are proportional to the actual Darwin bust.
