Bodhidharma was a renowned Buddhist monk who lived during the 5th or 6th century. He is traditionally recognized as the pioneer who brought Chan Buddhism to China, and celebrated as its first Chinese patriarch. According to ancient Chinese lore, he also introduced rigorous physical training for the monks of Shaolin Monastery, paving the way for the development of Shaolin Kung Fu.
