Abandoned by his mother, Matt Murdock was left in the care of his father, boxer "Battling Jack" Murdock, who raised him in Hell's Kitchen. Recognizing that rules are essential to maintain social order, Matt made up his mind to study law; but when he saved a man from being struck by an oncoming truck, it spilled radioactive cargo that left Matt blind while amplifying his remaining senses. Under the intense guidance of blind martial arts master Stick, Matt developed mastery over his heightened senses and emerged as a highly skilled fighter.
