During his lifetime, Dante Alighieri emerged as a prominent Italian poet of the late Middle Ages. His iconic work, originally titled Comedìa in modern Italian it is referred to as Commedia and later acclaimed by Boccaccio as Divina, stands proudly as the most revered literary masterpiece penned in the Italian language and a benchmark for world literature at large. In Italy, he is affectionately known as il Sommo Poeta ("the Supreme Poet") and poetically, il Poeta. Alongside Petrarch and Boccaccio, they are often referred to as "the three fountains" and "the three crowns". Moreover, Dante Alighieri is also hailed as "the Father of the Italian language."
