Dangerous Floating Gasbag Plant
thingiverse
FIELD SUMMARY: Due to the surface of Site Delta being intensely irradiated and highly corrosive, a particular type of fungus has evolved in the hostile environment. The fungus grows in colonies around recessed pools where acidic fluids collect. It feeds on these acids through a process that produces hydrogen and sulfur byproducts, which seep upwards through the fungal structures and create floating orbs with thin membranes full of gaseous hydrogen sulfide. These orbs occasionally rupture explosively, spreading fungal spores further across the barren landscape. Further study will likely be of interest only to xenobotanists who specialize in alien botany. There is no clear military application for this phenomenon. SITE WARDEN NOTES: The remark "no clear military value" should not be taken literally - these fungus colonies make the lowlands completely impassable due to the risk of explosions spreading across dozens of acres with a single stray shot. It would take an uninformed person to attempt to fire a weapon in this area. Any asset that needs protection from physical capture is safe here, except for threats from orbital bombardment. - Warden Burke If you need a model of alien fauna that is both bizarre and unsettling, consider a floating orb of explosive, caustic vapor - this phenomenon embodies those qualities. This design will require extensive support during printing; ensure those supports are well-calibrated before slicing to avoid any issues.
