Danforth (Fluke-style) Anchor

Danforth (Fluke-style) Anchor

grabcad

In the 1940s, Richard Danforth introduced the Danforth pattern anchor, designed for use on landing craft. This lightweight, compact anchor features a hinged stock and two large flat triangular flukes that can be oriented towards the bottom by trip palms at the crown. Ideal for burying, it offers high resistance once set. However, it struggles with kelp-covered or rocky surfaces, may "kite" in currents, and could fail to reset when force direction changes. Its flat design allows easy storage and retrieval; some anchor rollers and hawsepipes can accommodate fluke-style anchors.
