Dancing Groot thingiverse

Dancing Groot

thingiverse cordavi 986548 Free

I downloaded the Baby Groot model posted by landsharkxx (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:436968) and wanted to remix it and see if I could make it print easier with little or no supports. (Printing with PLA and an active cooling fan.)
I took the time to adjust the areas with overhangs, thicken his thin features, and resculpt in detail and add some leafs.
I was able to put him in a pot with a print in place part that allows him to wiggle around as if he was dancing. Video here: http://youtu.be/Qk9saWm2xM0
I used Meshmixer, Sculptris, and 123D Design. Print tested on a MakerBot Replicator 2. No supports or raft needed.

Rafts:
Yes

No

10%

Notes:
Download the file and prepare it in a slicer like MakerBot Desktop. I personally have been printing him at Standard Resolution (0.2 mm), 10% infill, and two shells. He is designed to be printed sitting up with his hands in the air.
NOTE: The details on the top of baby groot can be challenging on the printer. The "hair" requires a lot of small/quick movements that can cause issues with how the printer retracts the filament when it's traveling. You may want to play with speed, minimum layer time, and retraction if you are having failures towards the end of the print.
