Dancing Groot
thingiverse
I downloaded the Baby Groot model posted by landsharkxx on Thingiverse (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:436968) and set out to remix it for easier printing with minimal or no supports needed. Using my printer with a PLA material and active cooling fan, I proceeded to tweak areas with significant overhangs, beef up his slim features, resculpt details, and add some foliage. Next, I incorporated him into a pot design, including a print-in-place component that allows Baby Groot to wiggle around like he's dancing in place – watch the video here: http://youtu.be/Qk9saWm2xM0 I utilized Meshmixer, Sculptris, and 123D Design for this endeavor. The resulting model underwent testing on a MakerBot Replicator 2 printer, requiring no supports or raft during printing. Print Settings Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 2 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 10% Notes: Prepare the downloaded file using a slicer like MakerBot Desktop. Personally, I've printed him at Standard Resolution (0.2 mm), 10% infill, and two shells while he's designed to sit upright with hands in the air. NOTE: Details atop Baby Groot may prove challenging for some printers, specifically with the 'hair' which necessitates rapid small movements, potentially resulting in retraction issues during filament retrieval. In case of printing difficulties, consider tweaking speed, minimum layer time, or retraction settings for better outcomes.
