Dancing Groot

Dancing Groot

I downloaded the Baby Groot model posted by landsharkxx and decided to remix it, eager to see if I could make it print with ease and minimal support. With PLA in mind and an active cooling fan engaged. I took the time to tweak areas prone to overhangs, beef up his slender features, and resculpt in minute detail, adding some leaves to boot. The result was a solid foundation for further manipulation. Thanks to my proficiency with Meshmixer, Sculptris, and 123D Design, I was able to position Baby Groot in a pot with a custom print-in-place part that allowed him to sway freely, as if dancing with reckless abandon. Check out the video here: http://youtu.be/Qk9saWm2xM0 Printed on my trusty MakerBot Replicator 2, Baby Groot came out with flying colors – no supports or raft needed, a true testament to the printer's capabilities.
