Dancer Ready to Dance, Right Foot Forward
myminifactory
From the late 1860s, Degas began working with sculptures, placing special emphasis on ballerinas. He fashioned his figures using a highly pliable mixture of wax and clay, reinforcing them with everyday objects such as matchsticks, wire, and wine corks. Noticeably visible is a bit of wire used as an armature protruding from the right hand. Degas never had any of his sculptures cast in bronze.
