A detailed model of Danapoint Harbor as it appeared in 2002 has been created using data from NOAA - see item:2820949. Dana, after whom the harbor and city are named, bravely rappelled down the sheer cliff face near the cove back in 1835, holding tight to a rope without any safety equipment. He recounts this daring feat in his book, "Two Years Before the Mast", Chapter XXIV. A replica of his ship, "The Pilgrim" is moored in the cove.
