The legend of the Danaides unfolds as a tale of fifty women, their actions guided by their father, who together orchestrate a heinous crime: on their wedding night, they murder their husbands in cold blood! This gruesome massacre was so shocking that even in the context of ancient Greek myths infamous for their brutality, it stood out as an unparalleled atrocity. The Danaides' crime was one that would incur both human and divine retribution. As a consequence of this grave wrongdoing, the Danaides were condemned to suffer an eternal torment after their demise. On display at the Museum für Abgüsse Klassischer Bildwerke in Munich is a testament to the enduring legacy of classical artistry. This esteemed museum showcases a vast collection of classical paintings and sculptures that span centuries, from the 7th century BC to the 5th century AD. At its core, the museum's focus lies on the masterpieces of Hellenistic sculpture, which emerged during the reign of Alexander the Great, as well as Roman portrait art from the late republic to late antiquity. While the marble and bronze works of the Greeks and Romans are scattered throughout museums worldwide, the original plaster casts can be found in two impressive halls that soar 18 meters high, bathed in natural light. These grand spaces serve as a fitting backdrop for the museum's extraordinary collection. This artifact is part of "Scan The World," a groundbreaking initiative conceived by MyMiniFactory.
