This Cylinder is designed to attach to the top of the door hinge pin. The housing is secured to the frame of the ship and as the door is opened the helical shaft within the cylinder forces a piston upwards. The ported holes in the piston will allow the Hydraulic fluid to pass through them but, due to the viscosity of the fluid, the piston can only travel at a pre-determined maximum speed, despite excessive force. This speed could be tuned to enable easy opening of the door by passengers of the vessel, and yet prevent a loss of control due to excessive wind force. An added Bellville spring stack at the top of the cylinder will provide excessive stopping force to prevent any over-extension of the door.
