Damped Filament guiding roll
thingiverse
My filament spool is mounted at the top of the printer, where my extruder picks it up. This necessitates a guiding roll that smoothly guides the filament through a 180-degree turn, dampened for a smooth feeding process. If the extruder makes quick pulls on the spool, the spring in the gear damps out the movement for a smoother spooling operation. To make this device work effectively, I need to use two bearings (624ZZ) and an M3x30 screw with a nut. This guide was designed using Tinkercad, an online 3D modeling software, available at https://www.tinkercad.com/things/4GhY0n0itwC. The spool's smooth operation can be ensured by quick extruder pulls.
