
Damepner mechanism

This design is a simple geared mechanism incorperating a high density material rotating independantly of the main shaft. The primary gear is secured to the door hinge, in which several teeth are removed giving 60 degrees of free motion. The secondary gear is used to set the desired gear ratio. The Inside diameter fo the high density dampener is geared respectively. This system is meant to be incorperated with a coil spring within the damepener itself, and a torsion spring within the main drive gear (not designed in model). This allows for the door to require a particular force in order to set the damepener in motion. Once the door has swung to its open position the gearing is no longer engaged thus allowing the dampener to spin freely using its inertia to wind the coil spring. The torsion spring within the main drive gear will give a high resisting force as the door reaches its fully open position keeping it from slamming into anything. Once the door is in its open position, the tension on the springs is released reversing the process allowing for the door to close at a smooth speed.
