Dallol is a cinder cone volcano that dominates the Danakil Depression landscape in northeastern Ethiopia. Its formation was a result of intense volcanic activity when basaltic magma surged into Miocene salt deposits, igniting a fiery spectacle of hydrothermal power. The scene erupted into chaos on March 3, 1926, as phreatic eruptions shook the ground and sent massive plumes of steam shooting high into the air.
