Daily earring #60: Small combination lock / Enhanced Cryptex
thingiverse
Introducing daily earring number sixty, this simplistic combination lock stands at just over a centimeter tall and can potentially be made smaller. Made within an hour using inspiration from Thingiverse's 7233 (which was inspired by 4414), the lock opens with A/E and features letters on each ring. Despite working on the first print, a reprint was done for cosmetic improvements and longer lock bars to reduce play. The pictures may not be ideal due to flash usage, but this design can be printed using a pp3dp UP+ at 0.2mm fine settings. Be prepared to clean out some support with angled tweezers, though it's easier than expected. The inner tubus lock bars could be shortened for better fit, and the top disc was made flat for easier holding while turning. Source files are included for resizing purposes, but further improvements may include fixing minor offset and loose issues, removing inner gaps, adding a front marker to indicate letter rotation, or creating a larger storage hole in the tube. Feel free to customize the design as needed.
