Dactyl-Manuform 4x6 (the endgame as of 20190507)
thingiverse
This is an enhanced version of Dactyl-Manuform 4x6 with optimized tenting and tilting for increased comfort. It occupies a middle ground between the other two versions I built, offering a subtle adjustment in angles that makes it feel more natural to use. I've only had a couple of days to test this design, so I'll need another couple of weeks to fully appreciate its potential. The photos demonstrate how much higher this version stands compared to the lower model I've been using for over a year now. In this revised design, I streamlined the bottom part to make assembly faster and easier. By removing the threaded inserts from the keyboard case, I was able to simplify the bottom section even further, making it thinner and allowing light to pass through in darker environments. The bottom part simply clicks into place within the top one without needing any fasteners, saving around 30 minutes of build time. You can find the original Dactyl-Manuform design by Tom Short here: https://github.com/tshort/dactyl-keyboard UPD 20190517: The space between the keys is 16 mm, which is smaller than the standard 19mm. The round typewriter-style caps I used fit perfectly, but standard MX caps might be a bit too tight due to this reduced spacing.
