DAA Case Loader Sensor on a Dillon 550B
thingiverse
I just installed the DAA case loader on my Dillon 550B but knew I might not catch the tube being empty so I wanted a sensor to tell me when it was running low. This uses a 12V Heschen M30 Inductive Proximity Sensor Switch I got on Amazon; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081NNN98M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I found that brass is less sensitive than iron so, after trial and error, I found I needed the 15mm distance found only on a 30mm diameter sensor. For a 12VDC power supply, I used a ALITOVE DC 12V 5A Power Supply Adapter Converter Transformer, Amazon; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GEA8PQA/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but any 12VDC source will work. You also need an alert device, a 12V light or Buzzer will work. I used a DIGITEN AC DC 12V 22mm Red LED Flash Alarm 80dB Indicator Light Lamp with Buzzer, Amazon; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017YL31OY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 A switch is optional but recommended, unless you want the buzzer sounding all the time you are setting up. I also used a phone jack for each sensor. I put the plug on the sensor and wired the jack into the box. Simple hookup, 12V + to a switch, switch to brown sensor wire, blue wire from sensor to alarm and a wire from the alarm to the 12V -. I put several holes in the mount and base for fine tuning the placement of the sensor but to the right of the base seems right. I originally made the mount directly in front of the drop tube but the primer drop tube and the powder measure were in the way so had to move it. Because of that, in order for the sensor to work all the time, the fit is tight and will rub on the next tube slightly when you rotate to the next drop tube but doesn't seem to be a problem. You will have to adjust the sensor distance accordingly. The sensor will alarm when there are a few shells left, but at least you will be aware of when it is almost empty and it is time to rotate to the next drop tube. The tab is held in place by a 5mm screw and nut and rotates under the base of the feeder, to hold it in place.
