USE AT YOUR OWN RISK; NO IMPLIED WARRANTY, LIABILITY OR FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY IS ASSUMED BY THE ORIGINATING DESIGNER OF THIS REPAIR AND/OR RETROFIT. This is a repair/retrofit of the OEM hotend replacing the heat throat with a MK8 40mm long and a J-Head heat block and nozzle. The number of 3D printed parts is minimal and include a new cooling fan duct, and filament guide to permit easy loading. The parts needed to complete the retrofit are listed with a known vendor and link at the time of posting. All design files in native Fusion 360 format, STEP and detailed assembly drawings are also in the download package. Now with all that out of the way; my experience with this repair is better than I could have hopped, and it is installed in my printer pushing out plastic. Some very important points based on my experiences: Clean the mating surfaces on the heat-sinks with 70-99% IPA until they are clean. Use the recommended thermal compound or comparable at assembly; I suggest avoiding the white grease compound completely. Too much thermal compound is not better; it just creates a mess and does not conduct heat as well. Do perform an assembly without compound first to become more familiar with what tools or fixtures you will need at the ready. If your only experience is with the OEM nozzle then this will be a new item; put a silicone sock on the heater block. It does wonders for temperature stability when printing all the compatible filaments. Have fun; it might take a bit to dial in your settings, but it will not take long. My first print was the same for a V6 J-Head with some minor tweaks on retraction and run-out distances. Comments, questions and suggestions are always welcome. Category: 3D Printer Parts
