Da Vinci Giant crossbow
grabcad
Da Vinci's giant crossbow was designed primarily to instill fear, but it's a fascinating mechanism worthy of recreation. The design is easily printable using FDM method with ABS material. While ABS works, a stronger plastic for gears would be better. The design is split into separate parts for easy assembly and has improved tolerances in version 2 for smoother fitment. Modern spur gears were added to enhance functionality. Printing is done on high-accuracy printers with loose tolerances of 0.09mm, and infill is set to full for strength. The crossbow uses a rubber band instead of plastic due to limitations in material strength. Pushing the trigger fires the bow, as demonstrated in uploaded videos.
