Da Vinci 1.0a Internal Raspberry Pi Mount
thingiverse
Turn your Da Vinci 1.0a into a standalone, wireless 3D printer by mounting a Raspberry Pi running Octopi inside the printer to manage the printer through a web interface. This project requires some knowledge of electricity and computer internals and voids several warranties. To get started, you will need: * 1 x Da Vinci 1.0a or 1.0 3D printer running Repetier firmware * 1 x Raspberry Pi model B+, 2 or 3 * 1 x USB WiFi dongle (for Pi B+ or 2 only) * Misc cables for power and USB You will also need some optional components: * 1 x Raspberry Pi camera * 1 x >= 1 metre ribbon cable for camera The first step is to upgrade your Da Vinci printer to run Repetier firmware. Octoprint/Octopi cannot work with the stock firmware. Once you have upgraded your printer, follow these steps: 1. Print the strengthened "rpi_bracket_2.stl" bracket using ABS material. 2. Install the Raspberry Pi on the tray and connect a USB cable from the Pi to the printer. 3. (Optional) Connect an Ethernet cable to the Pi and/or the camera cable. 4. Provide power for your Pi inside the printer by connecting it to the Da Vinci internal power supply. 5. Test the system and take a photo to post on Thingiverse. The design of this project was created in Tinkercad, and the idea was born from the need to restrict access to the 3D printer to only one computer at home. The use of Octopi has made it possible to manage the printer through a web interface, making it easier to use and more convenient. Please note that this project requires some technical expertise and may void several warranties. However, if you are comfortable with electricity and computer internals, this can be a great way to turn your Da Vinci 1.0a into a standalone, wireless 3D printer.
