Da Vinci 1.0 Fan Mount
thingiverse
This is a mount that fits snugly into the handle on both sides of the Da Vinci 1.0, enabling the mounting of two 80mm cooling fans. You'll need eight small screws to get started. I opted for two Lepa 70D 80mm LP70D08R's because they offered a perfect balance of affordability, power, efficiency, and quiet operation. These fans also come with an adapter, allowing you to run them off either 7v or 5v, resulting in lower speeds but still adequate performance. I installed and tested mine recently, and the results are astounding, even considering I was printing with ABS. The print quality is unparalleled – overhangs are significantly improved, and the layer alignment is surprisingly accurate, resembling high-quality prints from other machines. However, it's worth noting that this improvement stems from a series of adjustments I've made to my printer. It's crucial not to run the fans during the initial layers or two to ensure proper adhesion to the build platform. I tapped into the Da Vinci power supply's 12v cable and connected it to the motherboard via a 6-inch P4 extension cable, carefully splicing in additional wires before securing them with a switch on the side of the case. Additionally, I sealed both the top gap and the door handle opening to channel air directly across the build platform and out the other side. Simply print the mount (it fits snugly on the Da Vinci's build platform), wrap some electrical tape around the shroud for extra sealage, and it securely secures itself. I actually had trouble getting it back out! To take it a step further, you could print two mounts, installing four fans with two on one side as intake and two on the opposite side as exhaust. This configuration ensures unobstructed airflow across the top of your print. Cheers to enhanced print quality!
