D9 Cii re-inspired part cooler
thingiverse
This is a completely new design, crafted from scratch using precise measurements for the nozzle and screws taken directly from the 'Cii inspired cooler for Duplicator 9' part by panylund (thing:3127625). It's a reimagined model that I originally remixed but wanted to recreate with Fusion360 for easier modifications. This design uses a 5015 fan and works seamlessly with both the MK1 and MK2 Duplicator 9 models, although it needs further verification for the latest MK2 revision by someone with an MK2 printer. If you have an original MK1 model with an MK2 upgrade, this cooler won't work because it comes with a special adapter for the newer mechanical probe that obstructs the cooling path. However, a brand-new purchased MK2 model places the probe in the same spot as the MK1, making it compatible with that model. This design is incompatible with the newer MK3 model. It works perfectly with: Duplicator 9 MK1 Duplicator 9 MK2 (verification needed from someone with an MK2 after the latest update) Unfortunately, it doesn't work with: Duplicator 9 MK1 upgraded to MK2 Duplicator 9 MK3 Notable changes over panylund's original design include: - The intake duct has been moved to avoid interference with the screw on the mounting plate. (My older remix had already addressed this issue) - The rounded design near the nozzle tips is now symmetrical. - The input duct has been relocated and shifted forward to clear the mounting plate and its screw. - The input duct has been narrowed for better fan stability, although I never experienced any issues with it coming loose - A new plate has been added behind the nozzle to block heatbreak fan air from escaping towards the heatblock. In Cii inspired coolers, downward airflow from the big hole in the red plate is directed out of that hole and some towards the front, toward the heatblock. This was counterproductive to the nozzle/heatblock heater. - I utilized SimScale to simulate airflow numerous times to optimize the internal design for even airflow on the output end of the cooler. You may need to perform a PID tune because the focused airflow is now concentrated at the print area instead of being spread out like in the original Cii D9 coolers. I also adjusted Cura settings to start cooling at 60% at layer 2 and scale it up to 90% by layer 6. The increased focused cooling can cause the nozzle temperature to drop too quickly when first turned on. CHANGELOG 2020-07-18 (Version 2) - Taller air chamber - Redesigned output for better airflow direction - Moved intake over to avoid interference with the mounting plate and its screw, ensuring unobstructed airflow within the internal chambers 2020-07-09 (Version 1) - Initial release
