Human: 1st version remix. I fortified the mount with added supports and eliminated the swiss micro clip, resulting in a huge difference. With these modifications, PLA printing is now possible; although untested, it printed successfully with PETG. There's no loss of print area with this design. Requires: Gdstime 4cm 40mm 24v DC Brushless Blower Cooling Fan New screws (I'll update sizes soon) Next Version: I'm planning to modify the design so you can reuse the stock screws and make some improvements to simplify printing. **I encountered issues printing this in Simplify3d, as it would do strange things when rendering. Cura didn't have any problems with it. I'll try to fix the STL file when I can. ---[ Why I worked on this ] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The stock fan on the D6/Ultimate is completely ineffective. In my opinion, no design should reuse it in its current location. Is the fan itself the problem? Not really; however, it's not ideal. The issue lies with the fan's placement too close to the plate that holds the extruder nozzle. This results in reduced airflow and pressure when the fan is placed near the plate. You can experience this yourself with a simple experiment. Remove the fan/stock shroud from the printer (note the fan's orientation for airflow; down). Set the stock shroud/screws/spacers aside. Turn the fan on to 100%. If you hold the fan away from the plate, it will blow quite well. Now, hold the fan where it would normally be mounted (without the shroud), and you'll find that the airflow out of the fan decreases nearly 60-70% due to the proximity of the plate, making the fan and its mounting location useless. Nothing can fix this except relocating the fan itself. Print Settings Printer: Monoprice Ultimate (Wanhao D6) Resolution: 1.5 Infill: 30% Notes: I printed this in PETG; this design should work with PLA. I haven't tested it yet, though. 2 outer walls (.4 nozzle) .8 thickness for tops/bottoms
