A custom Raspberry Pi mount designed for the WANHAO D6 3D printer allows for seamless integration of the device into the printing system. Additionally, a DC-DC step-down buck converter is integrated to provide power to the RPi through a USB port, ensuring stable and efficient operation. The original Raspberry Pi case has been modified to incorporate a nut-based fastening system, which requires 10 M3 nuts and 8 M3 bolts for assembly. The micro USB cable powering the RPi has been shortened to accommodate the limited clearance of 30mm within the printer. Users may need to utilize a left-angled USB cable or one with a shorter connector to facilitate this setup. This custom case is designed to work in conjunction with the Kintaro RPi heatsink and a 40mm fan, ensuring optimal cooling performance for the device. However, users should note that the onboard wireless module of the RPi 3 is not functional within the printer's enclosure. To overcome this limitation, an Ethernet cable can be used to connect OctoPrint, or alternative solutions such as mounting a USB WiFi adapter externally or modifying the onboard WiFi to utilize an external antenna may be explored.
