A striking D12 Terrarium, available in 5 sleek sizes, with and without a built-in drain. This part poses a printing challenge due to its long overhanging features. To successfully print this part, several standard options are available: - Standard supports can be used either manually or automatically generated: although it works, the outcome is often unsatisfactory, resulting in a part filled with marks and possibly unusable as decorative. - In dual extrusion machines, PLA and PVA can be employed effectively; however, PVA is pricey and prone to malfunctioning. The part may end up with tiny holes due to PVA stringing and oozing. For this specific print, I prefer a third method: - PLA serves as the primary material, while ABS acts as the support material. ABS and PLA exhibit unique adhesion properties. By controlling the ABS temperature, you can achieve minimal adhesion (around 220C) or nearly permanent fusion (around 240C). This allows you to print various types of supports over the PLA and later remove them without leaving any residue. The ABS behaves exceptionally well and does not contaminate the PLA. In the accompanying timelapse video, I printed using black PLA with white ABS as support: https://youtu.be/LERzgaUVqbI
