D-Day remains at Lepe County Park
sketchfab
A 3D visualization of D-Day remains stands at Lepe County Park, crafted by Wessex Archaeology's graphics studio and geomatics team. Data collected about WWII remains on the foreshore at Lepe beach (gathered by MOLA as part of CITiZAN) was combined with data from the University of Southampton to create this model of the site in its current state. Lepe beach played a crucial role in D-Day operations, serving as one of the departure sites for Allied forces headed to Normandy's beaches. Additionally, it was a construction site for caissons that formed part of the Mulberry Harbors. Internationally significant structural remains are rapidly being lost due to coastal erosion. This 3D model is part of a project by the New Forest National Park Authority and Wessex Archaeology, aiming to create an in-depth digital record to engage future generations with WWII activity and demonstrate its impact on the New Forest.
