D&D Wan Han, the one armed Samurai
thingiverse
I've recently developed a fascination with archers, which led me to create this model before starting the Elf Acrobat model on Thingiverse. The name was inspired by the source artist's work, as I was searching for D&D character images and stumbled upon a beautiful piece of art on Reddit that caught my eye. The unique design and pose of Wan Han, the One-Armed Samurai, represented a challenge and an exciting opportunity to recreate in 3D. The posing and base figure came from Desktop Hero Beta, while the outfit was also sourced from there, but nearly everything has been re-sculpted so that only a few elements remain. The shoes and armor were designed to match the art as closely as possible, with the missing arm sleeve created to resemble a shortened or tied-off design. The bow and quiver were initially created using Desktop Hero items, but they were modified, duplicated, and stretched to fit the model. A smaller version of this bow was used for the Elf Archer Acrobat model, while the arrow, arrowhead, and strings were custom-made. Quiver fletches were added to the arrow and sculpted to enhance their appearance. To ensure that the bow stays in place after firing, a bow sling was attached. Some hair sculpting was done to blend with the outfit better. The samurai sword used in this model is a modified version of my previous Human Samurai Fighter model, which was stretched and scaled to create a Wakizashi design. It was also moved to the correct side of the body so that it can be drawn more easily. The base source was edited by removing its outer ring, creating a new under base, and scaling it appropriately. However, I'm not entirely satisfied with how the body armor turned out and may revisit this aspect in a future update. When handling the model, please exercise caution when cleaning around the leg and base, as they can be prone to snapping. A slight thickening was added to the leg area to help mitigate this issue. The model is available in both 80mm and 40mm versions, with the larger size showcasing more details and a thicker bow string shaft for better print quality. The smaller version still displays the necessary details while ensuring that the bow strings are not too thin or prone to breaking.
