D&D scenery: Stone Urn for Tomb of Annihilation
thingiverse
Fenthasa's Quarters (area 5) in the Fane of the Night Serpent within the D&D adventure Tomb of Annihilation contains a Storn Urn holding an Air Elemental. The urn is described as 4 feet tall and weighs 250 pounds, with a 25-pound stone lid that is covered in intricate snake carvings. Seeking a suitable base model for variations, I discovered ecaroth's Urn of the Five Thousand Voices, originally designed as an elaborate Mimic model on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3176596. This model already features snake-like carvings and a lid, making it a great starting point. However, the original model has a more delicate feel than the described urn, so I adjusted the dimensions to give it a sturdier appearance. To achieve this, I increased the x and y size of the model to cover most of an OpenLock/OpenForge tile (22 mm now, compared to 25.4 mm = 1 inch Openlock size), which also works well for larger Wyloch style tiles. No scaling is required, as the adjusted dimensions fit perfectly within the standard miniature size. There are two height versions available, both smaller than the original to ensure they remain under the size of miniatures. Please refer to the pictures to decide which version to print; the single-urn picture showcases the smaller version. The new proportions give the impression that the urn is massive, despite its smaller height, effectively conveying a sense of weight and grandeur. This model can be printed support-less in Cura using "Make Overhand printable" with minimal impact on the overall appearance, should you choose to do so.
