D-Bot Core_XY gone Linear (was: in Threes)
thingiverse
Version actualized as of Feb 15th, 2019. What remained unchanged was the main body of D-Bot Core-XY 3D Printer by spauda01 at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1001065 with its extensive and helpful documentation that led me on this path. Some parts of J-Bot Core-XY? by JonnayLin at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1721957 were also used, along with the Beefed-up Corner for D-Bot / 20mm V-Slot Rails by beepbeep at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1605514. I adjusted the upper front rail (N in manual) to just below the bed in Z-home position for better accessibility of hot ends and bed surface, almost necessary with a 20x20 rail for the X-Carriage. All moving parts underwent significant changes, earning their own thingiverse pages: X-Carriage, Linear, Modular, 20x20 V-Slot by printingSome at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3350550. The X-carriage was upgraded with a new version, replacing the old one from printingSome at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2206664. The Y-Carriage_for_20x20_X-Rail and 3-wheeled Y guide goes linear by printingSome were also used, along with the D-Bot_Linear_Z-guide by printingSome at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2664656. The lead screws are gone, replaced by a bed hoist system that makes everything lighter and easier. The Y-Endstop was upgraded to be more adjustable, accommodating a KW11-3Z 5A 250V microswitch or one with electronics around it. The Z-endstops work seamlessly with the linear Z guide. I now use the Rumba board but have also used the Ramps1.4 board with drv8825 for X and Y axes and A4988 for the Z-axis, which was a great improvement. For nimbles, I recommend using the A4988 as well, advised by the manufacturer. I've made some edits to this post on 03-02-19, adding a link to my Y-Carriage_for_20x20_X-Rail; on 15-02-19, actualizing pictures and links (the last one being the second version of Bed_Hoist); on 29-03-19, exchanging soft balls in ball feet for tennis balls which resulted in much less swaying; and on 11-08-19, mentioning the "Final" version of the Bed_Hoist.
