D-Bot Add-On 40mm Sorbothane Vibration Dampener Foot Mount
thingiverse
I've decided that after some use, the sorbothane feet on my D-Bot are not doing the job well enough, despite doing a great job of reducing the hum from my stepper motors and fans. They're probably rated for a weight lower than what my printer can handle, and I'm noticing that the whole printer rocks around a bit as the print head moves. I might remove these soft feet in favor of something more solid, but still effective at dampening vibrations. I came up with this quick fix to mount it as an add-on for my D-Bot. The noise my printer makes is actually more tolerable than my previous printer, the Prusa i3 Rework, so I thought I'd try to make some adjustments. There's a small recess on the frame where the sound dampening feet go, and I printed with no support material right on my print bed. This means that where the feet are, the print is uneven, but the sorbothane is very soft, so it conforms really well. I made these corner brackets to be mounted over the already installed bottom corner brackets for the D-Bot frame. I designed them as add-ons instead of replacements because I didn't want to have to disassemble anything, especially if they turned out to be ineffective in dampening the sound. Unfortunately, after installing these, I realized that the sorbothane feet I attached are a little too soft, so the whole printer rocks side to side. Although it is quieter now. A large source of noise for my printer is probably the 84oz-in torque stepper motors I'm using. As a solution, I'll be getting some firmer feet to test out.
