Cytochrome C (Human) (PDB 1J3S)
thingiverse
This detailed model represents the human cytochrome C structure based on the solution structure and PDB file 1J3S. It's crucial for electron transfer in the electron transport chain, featuring a single heme heteroatom represented as CPK along with the histidine ligand. Although initially flimsy, the model gives an impression of protein fluidity. Printing requires support selection and could take 2-3 hours to remove supports. The build time is nearly 8 hours on a Makerbot Replicator 2. Expect some fragility during the process. To create the model, the original pdb file was manipulated in VMD to include only the monomer without water molecules, then imported into Tinkercad for alignment and support features. Manual gluing with standard model glue may be required. Be prepared for significant work and patience when removing supports, but the final print is worth it. Painted highlights include alpha helices in orange, beta sheets in teal, heme atoms in individual colors, and iron painted green.
