Cygnus X2 Laser Pistol
thingiverse
The double-barreled laser pistols wielded by Sentry Robots onboard the Cygnus (US Deep Space Probe One) from Disney's "The Black Hole" feature some inaccuracies in the movie. The top and bottom laser coils, for instance, may be easier to replicate by coiling wire around a dowel rather than printing them. Print Settings: Printer: XYZ Davinci Rafts: Yes Supports: Yes Infill: 10% Notes: Print two of each part except handgrip halves. Post-Printing: Assembly is straightforward. Left and right hand-grips fit together, with tabs that slot into the main body. The two muzzle halves fit together, then onto the front (the end with the reinforcing bar of the main body). The butt fits flush to the back of the gun. The barrel and laser tip have location pegs for assembly. I designed this project from photographs of the movie prop, tracing them over in Adobe Illustrator to produce plan and view drawings. From these plans, SVGs were created and imported into 123d, where parts were created, scaled, and then exported into Meshmixer to produce .stl models for printing.
