Cyclops(18mm) ready X/Z-axis with shortened bowden for Athorbot
thingiverse
I'm so excited to share this project with fellow Athorbot owners who are ready to take their printing capabilities to the next level! As an owner myself, I know how frustrating it can be when you're limited by the materials you can use. That's why I've been working on a new design that will allow us to print with more abrasive materials - and I'm thrilled to say that it's coming along nicely! This project involves replacing the 2-1 head with an E3D Cyclops 18mm 2-in-2-out hotend, which will give us the versatility we need to experiment with different materials. I'm currently in the process of printing a prototype, and while I expect there may be some tweaks needed along the way, this initial version should work just fine. One important note: you'll need to create a mount for the endstop switch - so be sure to factor that into your build plan. And as with any project, use caution and common sense when working with new materials. I've already had the chance to test print this design using nylon (yes, it was a real challenge!), and I learned a valuable lesson about the importance of designing a model with no corners to prevent warping. If you're having trouble printing this out, please don't hesitate to reach out - I'd be happy to share my solution with you. In terms of materials, I recommend sticking with something that's less likely to warp, but be mindful of your enclosure setup if you do choose a more challenging material like PLA (which, while it produces amazing prints, can be prone to deformation).
