Cycloidal Gear Drive
grabcad
A minor personal project involving a 10:1 ratio cycloidal gear drive has occupied my time recently. Mathematical equations were employed to determine the parameters for an epitrochoid spline used in creating the gears, with pin diameter and spacing also calculated. A prototype was created using ABS filament at approximately 40% scale. The resulting size makes it ideal as a small desk toy. The pins, however, are on the smaller side, prompting thoughts of redesign to incorporate heavier pins housed internally for a more robust construction. Despite this potential improvement, the current design's external visibility is appreciated. Additionally, I intentionally omitted tolerances to achieve a tighter fit; users wishing to print their own will need sandpaper or custom adjustments accordingly.
