Ancient Greek ceramics stand out due to their remarkable durability, leaving behind a significant portion of the archaeological record in ancient Greece. With over 100,000 documented painted vases in the Corpus vasorum antiquorum, this art form has had an extraordinary impact on our understanding of Greek culture. Early styles of ceramics from ancient Greece include Aegean pottery, characterized by Minoan ceramics that reached a sophisticated level in its final stages, Cycladic pottery, Minyan ware and Mycenaean pottery in the Bronze Age. Following this was the cultural disruption of the Greek Dark Age, which paved the way for the recovery of Greek culture and the eventual emergence of Sub-Mycenaean pottery as it transitioned into the Protogeometric style that marks the beginning of Ancient Greek ceramics proper.
