Cyborg Geared Bowden Extruder - With Herringbone Gears and Simplified Hardware
thingiverse
I thoroughly enjoyed this extruder, but there were a couple of aspects that left me feeling somewhat dissatisfied, prompting me to remix it. I've swapped out the gears for herringbone gears as I believe they are far more visually appealing, and I also revised some of the hardware because I prefer not to order parts that are not readily available locally. Fortunately, I already had 6001 bearings on hand, so I chose to retain the M12 bolt. The extruder can accommodate either 1.75mm or 3mm filament as long as you have the correct tube fitting and the bolt has been properly hobbed. The M12 bolt is partially threaded, with the portion that the filament will pass over being part of the non-threaded section, making it easy to hob. The M8 bolt holding the 608 bearing in place is a regular cap head screw that I cut off once it was securely fastened. This ensures that it won't interfere with the main bearings. The body and idler parts remain unchanged, but I've included them nonetheless. I hope this revised design proves to be more useful. It's an excellent creation, and I hope it garners more widespread use. Here is the revised BOM: Bearings: 2x 6001 bearings 1x 608 bearings Bolts: M8x20 (qty 1) - Holds the 608 bearing M3x20 (qty 1) - Attaches the idler to body M3x55 (qty 2) - Tensioner Bolts M12x60 (partially threaded) - Main hobbed bolt Nuts: M12 (qty 1) - Nylon lock nut M3 (qty 2) - Nylon lock nuts Other: Two springs M3 Washers (qty 4) One standard NEMA17 stepper motor Print Settings: Printer: Monoprice Replicator 1 Clone Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.2 Infill: 100 Notes: I utilized 100% infill for the gears with support, focusing on the central hub of the gear to avoid excessive material consumption.
