Navigating this maze will reveal your extra-terrestrial origin!

The pattern of this bracelet was generated via a differential line growth simulation. The simulation starts with a graph of connected nodes. At each iteration, the nodes arrange themselves in new positions, determined by the balance between attraction and repulsion forces between them and their neighbours. New nodes are added whenever an edge becomes too long. The result is a continuous line that tries to cover all available space without intersecting itself.

Print instructions

Prints at 0.2 mm layer height. Import the base into your slicer, then add the pattern as a part. The base should be printed in a soft material, ideally TPE, but TPU works as well. With a TPU base, you can use PETG or PLA for the pattern.

The prints pictured are printed in TPU + PETG and TPU + PLA using a 0.4 mm nozzle. They were sliced with Superslicer v. 2.2.53. Below is an overview of the settings used:

To get a slightly textured surface, make every layer a bottom layer and use a Hilbert Curve infill at 75%. Also, ensure that the ‘only one perimeter on Top surfaces’ option is unchecked, otherwise the slicer will produce a lot of unnecessary movements on the top surface of the base.

Perimeters & Shell > Horizontal shells > Solid layers:
Bottom: 10 (or anything resulting at > 1.2 mm, which is the height of the base)
Top: 0
Infill:
Fill density: 75%
Pattern: Hilbert Curve
Solid pattern: Hilbert Curve
External patterns: Archimedian Chords (or anything that does not involve an excessive amount of travels and retractions). This setting only applies to the top layer and will be used when filling the pattern.

Part settings for filled pattern:
Bottom solid layers: 1
Perimeters count: 1
Top solid layers: 1 (this will use the ‘External patterns’ setting)

Part settings for pattern outline:
Bottom solid layers: 0
Perimeters count: 1
Top solid layers: 0
Fill density: 0%
External perimeters speed: 30 mm/s (slower because of increased perimeter width - assuming PETG or PLA for the pattern)
External perimeters width: 0.6 mm
