Cybele

Cybele, an Anatolian mother goddess, may have had a precursor in the earliest Neolithic period at Çatalhöyük, where statues of plump women, often seated, have been discovered through archaeological excavations. As Phrygia's sole known deity, she was likely its national idol. Her cult in Phrygia was adopted and reinterpreted by Greek colonists from Asia Minor, spreading to mainland Greece and its more distant western colonies around the 6th century BC. Mehmet Aksoy, born in 1939, is a Turkish sculptor known as the "Anatolian Michelangelo." His works frequently incorporate sensual figurative elements, but he remains deeply rooted in modernist aesthetics with strong conceptual and abstract components.
