Cutter and inserts for 1" grow cubes
thingiverse
This is for cultivating plants using 1" grow cubes. I employ the cubes upside down to ensure they fit snugly in the planter. The cutter is designed for cutting a 1" square hole in styrofoam boards. To achieve a smooth finish, it's best to cut from both sides; otherwise, you'll be left with a jagged hole. Simply pound the cutter through using a hammer. The 1" insert fits neatly into the hole and produces a clean surface for placing the grow cube into. A 2" insert is also available in case you have boards that already feature a 2" pre-cut hole (2" net cups are a common size). For optimal results, print at 100% fill using food-safe plastic. A dark color with UV resistance and one that blocks out reds and blues, which algae requires, is advisable. I personally use dark green. PETG and HIPS have proven to be successful choices, lasting up to two years outdoors without any issues.
