I tried to stay true to ray4510's design and I tried to not change the features. The object of this remix is to let the filament do the color and minimize any painting. I printed the base (holder-lower.stl) as is. I changed color at the first text emblem layer to a cool white. This prints the attachment point for the tower in the 2nd color, but if you are going to paint... a little black paint way down under it won't be what catches your eye. holder-upper.stl is what I hacked up. Center Emblem in the upper piece I cut out the large center emblem out all the way to the back. I should have left the back solid and made the emblem a couple of layers shallower... oh well. You could drop a 1mm plate when you print it to fill the hole and scale your Z down a little on center emblem. The center EMBLEM now prints as a separate piece with a black deck of about 1mm and the rest in the emblem color of your choice. I did cool white. The front Star Wars name I was doing a color drop-in where you pause your print and drop in a pre-printed color sheet. So I dropped in the sheet and restarted from Octopi forgetting that I should have restarted from my printer. Octopi does not turn the nozzle heater back on so the restart ran the Gcode forward with no extrusion. Even if I had done it right the 3D editor I used had some auto help features I could not control and it helped me by taking the centers of the A's and R's away since they were floating detached objects. Print the front text as a separate plate and glue it on option: So here is the plan... print holder-upper_Cutouts-Center-Text.stl, pause it at the last layer before the text prints... end the print. Print the text with the color background you want as a separate piece and glue it on. The alignment is going to be real close. Print the text glue on piece... remember to NOT glue behind the letters as the glue may come through and be visible. Print the color rectangle layers below the letters WITH supports from the table (sorry)... and then at the letter layer print your new color. The support layer is not too thick... which I find to make it a little harder as the supports have a tendency to bond better. Full text drop in exists: If you want to do the color insert during print with the correct text there is a nice remix by petansykora that does just that https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2627000 Make sure if you do the drop-in option that you print the drop in plates before you print holder-upper.stl. So the two little emblems to the sides of the text... I cylindered those out and printed them separately. You can print them with your color choice upto the emblem and then print the emblem... or ... you can do something else of your choice. It is a lot of small detail for a .4 Nozzle. Here are the dimensions I used for those pieces. 5mm tall cylinder, 11.2mm diameter with the artwork being 1mm tall. That will recess it just a bit in the hole. Or you can just print the emblems I am providing. The Trooper... again, no modifications use the original holder-T-upper.stl and holder-T-lower.stl. I decided to print the lower trooper body standing up so any support marks were on the bottom. I had no problems with that. I originally printed it in some ivory looking white PLA then I re-printed it in COOL WHITE pla. The COOL WHITE I used I cannot get anymore. IT was sold by Supply3D on Amazon. I just ordered a roll of eSUN cool white which is really close, but it is not exactly the solid white no gloss look of the Supply3D. If you are using something similar that gives you pure white low shine results I and others would be interested in you leaving a note in the comments. Parts guide: Use the originals from here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1914138/files holder-T-upper.stl holder-T-lower.stl holder-lower.stl .. and any phone inserts The Remix Parts are: * Center_Imperiaseal_BlackBase_YourColorUpper.stl * Just_holder-upper_SW_NAME_and_ColorPlate.stl (glue on plate) * holder-upper_Cutouts-Center-Text.stl (I recommend pause at layer before text and end print there). I included the 3mf version in case you want to edit where I left off. * Seal_Inserts_aside_Text.stl (qty 2) optionally, if you are going to do the dropin-in backgrounds... I included a 1mm which should be the correct thickness... and a .8mm in case it looks to thick for some reason. Sw_text_Color_background_insert_51-6_22-5_1mm_Thick.stl Sw_text_Color_background_insert_51-6_22-5_8th_mm_Thick.stl
