**Solution**, when you have a field that gets displayed with `text()`, make sure to use `text(str(input))` to ensure it's shown as a string. If you don't do this and put in an integer, it will get stored as an integer and `text()` won't render it correctly. Testing customizer... after some trial and error, I finally found the root of the problem.
