Customizable Waterproof Pill Box

This is a waterproof pill container featuring a 7-day compartmented storage tray that securely closes with a bayonet fixture requiring only approximately 1/8th turn. The lid's design provides easy access to the stored pills. The container's design is fully parameterized in Fusion 360, allowing users to adjust the diameter and length of the container along with the number of compartments in the tray. These adjustable parameters are clearly outlined in the attached image. To achieve a watertight seal, it is crucial that the seal be printed in TPU or a similar flexible material. In my experiments, I found that printing the seal with three perimeters and testing it under 10cm of water for 10 minutes resulted in no leakage. However, if you plan to rely on this container's waterproofing abilities, it is recommended that you apply a sealant to the surface and conduct thorough testing. When printing the container, I found that supports are not required, as overhangs are moderate and bridging is not necessary. Nevertheless, layer height plays a critical role in the region of the interlocking surfaces of the bayonet mechanism. To minimize layer height in this area, I suggest using variable layer height. The reduced layer height has little impact on overall print time, allowing for excellent results at 0.08mm layers and good results at 0.13mm layers. Upon printing the container, it is essential to note that the tube's bottom surface forms part of the seal. To ensure a proper seal, it is crucial that your bed be smooth and level. If necessary, you can polish the surface by hand. I printed on PEI without requiring any post-processing. When printing the o-ring, I used TPU with three perimeters, featuring plenty of top and bottom layers along with 30% infill. It is vital to avoid under-extrusion, as this could allow water to leak through the seal itself. Using an extruder with a 120% extrusion multiplier for soft TPU worked well for me. Both Amazon Basics TPU and eSUN eLastic 85A TPE proved suitable options, while SainSmart TPU was found too hard. After printing the container, I discovered that the closure mechanism may become stiff upon initial use. To loosen it up, I recommend assembling the container first with just the seal inside the ring of the lid and then operating it several dozen times before adding the cap component. If you print with a fat layer height, you may need to tidy up the interlocking surfaces by hand before the mechanism will close properly.
