Customizable Waterhouse Stops for Lenses
thingiverse
I've been sitting on this design for a few months and finally feel happy enough to release it. Please give feedback if you make custom stops for your old lenses. The design files are parametric in FreeCAD, use the Params spreadsheet to enter the measured focal length of your lens, the desired aperture F stop, and some other geometric parameters of the lens slot and tab dimensions. There's a set with a hole for keeping your set of stops on a loop of cord. They all have a chamfer (bevel) in the central hole just like a proper Waterhouse stop should. It helps a bit with the precision of the aperture definition for light entering at an angle. Make washer stops by making the tab parameters all 0.1 mm, entering 0 mm breaks the calculations for some reason. FreeCAD isn't the most versatile, but.... it's free. Edit it in FreeCAD and export as an STL. Or export a drawing from above as an SVG and throw it on a laser cutter, Cameo/Cricut, etc. The possibilities are manifold.
