It's based on a three-dimensional version of the turtle algorithm. If you're using OpenSCAD and need a library of three-dimensional turtle graphics, the code I wrote may serve as a reference. STLs here can be printed, but it may be challenging for an FDM printer. However, other types, such as those using a process that deposits a binder material onto a powder bed layer by layer, may find it easier. If you're still sticking to an FDM printer, attempting a version with fewer recursions would be a good starting point. In the customizer, recursions are limited by init_leng, leng_limit, and leng_scale parameters. More recursions require more time to generate a preview in the customizer so the preview may be terminated by a browser due to security issues. If that's the case, download the .scad file and use OpenSCAD directly. Someone suggested that if all branches' overhang angles were under 90 degrees, it might be possible for DLPs to print it. I've uploaded one for this purpose. If you have a DLP, give it a try.
