Customizable Thumb Spanner/Wrench
thingiverse
A versatile thumb spanner/wrench design that fits neatly on a keyring is available for customization. Several examples of this file are included below, along with details.\n22/05/2016 - Customizable Version Added\nUnfortunately, I have been unable to get the text rendering to work well with the customizer, so it has been removed from this version. It can still be found in the file, along with instructions on how to make it work -- the modules and variables are commented out, however, so if you want something with labels, you may need to download the .SCAD file and start from there.\n22/05/2016\nAn 8mm version (M5) has been uploaded.\n19/05/2016\nA double-sided propeller spanner designed for use as a keyring accessory has been added. This design ensures that it does not get lost when needed, and is suitable for M5 and M6 nuts. The M6 size fits the Emax 2204 2300kv motors.\nM5 = 8mm.\nM6 = 10mm.\n(Flat to flat on the outside of the nut/bolt.)\n\n \n \n Using the Customizer\nA quick guide to building a spanner/wrench that works for you is provided below.\n Set the 'testing' variable to '1'. It should already be set, but still. A large tube should now appear through the center of the spanner.\nMeasure the flat-to-flat length of the nut you want to use with the spanner and enter this into the 'test_diameter' variable. At this point, it's a good idea to add extra length for any material shrinkage you normally get from your printer. 3 to 5 mm would be a good starting point.\ \nAdjust the size of the 'upper_dia' variable until the tube just fits inside the spanner without intersecting the edges.\n3b. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the 'lower_dia' variable if you want a second size on the spanner. Just make sure that the 'lower_dia' variable is smaller than the 'upper_dia'. If it's not, bad things will happen, well, might..\nAdjust the rest of the variables to your preferences. Make sure that the top and bottom of the render are flat. If they're not, try reducing the 'handle_thickness_2' variable slightly.\nFinally, set the 'testing' variable to '0' to get rid of the reference tube. Then output the file and print.
