Customizable Thumb Piano
thingiverse
A Thumb Piano, used for music making, is a lighthearted toy that comes with a major scale tine arrangement. Its components – tines, soundboard, and soundbox – are designed separately in OpenSCAD and can be customized using the Customizer. Each part's STL file is created individually by selecting them one by one. Printing is done with PLA, at .2mm layers, and 3 solid top/bottom layers, along with 2 perimeters. Tines, being the most customizable part, require choosing the longest tine length to determine piano's key. Solid printing ensures consistency in density. The soundboard has a slot for tines assembly and a soundhole; slight adjustments can be made using an emery board. The soundbox, which can optionally house a 1/4" socket for amplification, needs 50% infill while the soundboard requires 15%. All parts have varying print times ranging from 30 minutes to 4 hours. Experimenting with tine length is necessary as tuning isn't possible after printing.
